MEA announces evacuation of Indian nationals from protest-hit Iran
India has started making arrangements to evacuate its citizens from Iran as concerns grow over the deteriorating security environment. The move comes amid indications from the United States that it may consider military action against Tehran following its forceful response to nationwide protests. On Wednesday, New Delhi issued an advisory asking all Indian nationals currently in Iran to depart at the earliest through available means and cautioned against any non-essential travel to the country.Government officials said on Thursday that, in view of the rapidly changing situation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is working on plans to assist Indians who wish to return home. Authorities are also assessing the possibility of deploying both commercial and military aircraft for evacuation operations if the need arises. An estimated 10,000 or more Indians, including a large number of students, are believed to be residing in Iran.Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Tehran released a notice urging Indian citizens—such as students, pilgrims, business travellers and tourists—to leave Iran using any available transport options. The embassy further advised Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise caution, stay away from areas affected by protests or demonstrations, and maintain close communication with the mission.Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington has not ruled out the option of military intervention in Iran.
