SIR 2.0: Around 6.5 crore voters excluded from draft electoral rolls across nine States and three Union Territories

As part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI), about 6.5 crore voter names have been deleted from the draft electoral rolls released over the past few days for nine States and three Union Territories.Prior to the second phase of the SIR, which began on October 27, 2025, the combined electorate of these nine States and three UTs stood at 50.9 crore. However, following the publication of the revised draft rolls, the number of registered voters dropped to 44.4 crore.According to ECI officials, the removed names have been classified under the ‘ASD’ category—Absent, Shifted, and Dead or Duplicate.Earlier, ECI officials had pointed out that trends showed a significantly lower collection of enumeration forms in urban areas compared to rural regions in the States and UTs where the SIR process is underway.
